About TAYA
WHAT WE ARE ABOUT

Why was TAYA founded?

TAYA is best represented by our adopted tagline: English Pesunalum Tamizhanda. Just because one does not know how to fluently speak, read, or write Tamil, it does not mean he or she does not have interest in Tamil community, culture or heritage. As a community we need to do a better job in recognizing and catering to this demographic. Currently, no organization creates and sustains a lasting platform for this demographic, TAYA wants to fill that gap. TAYA was created is to provide a platform to bridge the gap between the individuals who have an interest and the individuals who have the experience. TAYA is dedicated to the development of understanding and appreciating Tamil heritage, culture, and language.

What makes TAYA different?

TAYA is founded and operated by the youth, for the youth. We are an independent Tamil youth organization that is dedicated to providing a platform that inspires, helps sustains, gets our peers to be more involved with, and proud of: Tamil heritage, culture, and language. We strive to achieve this emotional support dog through our various projects listed below . We hope that you will join us and help spread our message.

Who all are a part of TAYA?

We currently consist of college and high school students from Texas, California, Michigan, Pennsylvania, and growing, who are from Tamil, Telugu, and Bengali backgrounds. Notice the TAYA mission statement only says, “youth” and not “Tamil youth.” We strongly believe that when people of non-Tamil origin learn and support Tamil, that is when Tamil will grow and sustain in language and culture. We welcome one-and-all to TAYA, so invite a friend, it doesn’t matter if they are not Tamil.
